Angus Glen Golf Club and Conference Centre - Canadian Open Host Ready for You |
|
Angus Glen Golf Club and Conference Centre in Markham received applause from all corners for going the extra mile in hosting a lot more than just 156 of the most professional (and most picky) golfers. Beginning with the $2-million Davis Love III re-design of the North Course that not only toughened it for the Tour pros, but made it that much more challenging for the everyday golfer who has come out to enjoy it since its reopening in May, the attentive management and staff has continued to upgrade all portions of the facility. But more than just the physical improvements to the courses (they also have another 18, the South Course, that hosted the 2002 Canadian Open), or other amenities (like the addition of the Jim McLean Golf School to its own renowned Golf Academy), it is the hospitality shown by the dozens of Angus Glen’s family that made the Open such a huge success. They catered to 11 sold-out skyboxes near the pond at the 18th hole for the entire run of the tourney, and another 10 sold-out chalets.
Tents and suites scattered about the course hosting private parties and nearly 500 companies who purchased hospitality packages were attended to, not to mention over 91,000 golf fans from throughout Canada and the northern U-S and over 350 media from around the world. And that’s not to forget the golfers. Besides the 156 pros competing for the $5-million purse, there were two full-field Pro-Ams held during the week mingling those pros with avid golfers and corporate guests and a wide variety of sponsor parties and events in the days leading up to, and during the Open.
The Victorian-style clubhouse with spacious terrace overlooking the 18th green in a wonderful country setting sets the perfect mood and four stunning, yet distinctive banquet rooms that can accommodate groups of 24 to 400 will create memories of your event that will last for years.
