LaPointe/Rubenstein Elected to Canadian Hall of Fame |

Oakville, Ont. (RCGA) – The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) announced today that Mary Ann Lapointe (née Hayward) and Lorne Rubenstein have been named the 2007 inductees into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. With their inductions, Lapointe and Rubenstein become the 60th and 61st honoured members of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. Lapointe is the Hall of Fame’s 18th female inductee while Rubenstein is only the second media representative and first since Ralph H. Reville in 1986 to be honoured for his contributions to the game of golf in Canada. “The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame seeks to recognize excellence as golfers, contributors and supporters of the game,” said Karen Hewson, Director of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. “Mary Ann and Lorne and have each amassed their own unique golf related legacies and are both fine examples of what makes golf the game it is. Each has made tremendous contributions to the game and it is only fitting that as such, they are recognized for their accomplishments.” Throughout her illustrious playing career, Lapointe has distinguished herself as one of North America’s top female amateur golfers. Among her many accomplishments, the native of Lachine, Que. is a four-time Canadian Amateur champion, a six-time winner of the Quebec Amateur Championship, a five-time Ontario Amateur champion and a 12-time winner of the Ontario Mid-Amateur Championship. She has been a member of countless provincial teams for Quebec and Ontario and in 2005, Lapointe became the first Canadian to win the US Mid-Amateur title. At the international level, Lapointe has represented Canada eight times at the World Amateur Championship and four times at the Commonwealth Matches. For almost 30 years, Rubenstein has been chronicling the game of golf in Canada and around the world. Renowned as one of this country’s pre-eminent golf journalists, he has written a weekly column in the Globe and Mail since 1980, appeared in every major golf publication in Canada and abroad – winning many awards along the way – authored a number of best-selling books, hosted television shows and offered commentary on radio. He has covered golf at both the amateur and professional level and has co-authored books for many of the game’s top players. Through his career, the Toronto native has also spent time as a curator for the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Museum, was the first editor of SCORE Golf magazine, caddied on the PGA Tour and has written a number of golf club histories. The announcement marks the second time in as many years that Lapointe and Rubenstein have shared an induction honour as the pair was also named in 2006 to the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame. The pair will officially be inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in their home communities later this summer with North Halton Golf and Country Club hosting Lapointe’s induction on July 28 and Rubenstein’s induction taking place at Maple Downs Golf and Country Club on June 27.
